The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has reaffirmed that its ongoing strike action remains in force, following the failure of authorities to adequately address the association’s outstanding demands.
In a memo issued by the National Executive Officers and addressed to all CETAG members, the association confirmed that the strike, which was declared on 24th November 2025, is still fully active. According to CETAG, none of the legitimate concerns raised by members have been satisfactorily resolved, leaving no justification for suspending or calling off the industrial action.
Unresolved Matters
CETAG outlined several critical issues that continue to affect its members across the colleges of education. These include unpaid AYRWC payments, where twelve colleges are yet to receive any payment and four colleges have only been partially paid. Additionally, 2023/2024 BRA arrears remain unpaid across all colleges, while 2022/2023 BRA arrears have also not been settled on a pro-rata basis. The association further noted that the Akrokerri College of Education research allowance top-up is still outstanding.
Another key issue highlighted is the matter before the National Labour Commission (NLC), which is scheduled for determination on 21st January 2026.
Directives to Members
In light of the unresolved concerns, CETAG has issued clear directives to its members. The association stated that the strike will continue until further notice. Members have been instructed not to resume any academic or administrative duties unless they receive official communication from the National Secretariat. Zonal and local executives have also been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these instructions and reporting any violations immediately.
Call for Unity and Solidarity
CETAG called on its members across the forty-six (46) colleges of education to remain united, firm, and committed to the collective struggle. The association emphasized that unity remains its strongest asset and warned that any form of deviation weakens the overall effort of the group.
The leadership expressed appreciation for the resilience and sacrifices of members in the pursuit of fairness and justice, expressing confidence that the desired outcome will eventually be achieved through continued solidarity.
The memo was issued on 12th January 2026 and signed by Fidelis Kamaayi, National Secretary, on behalf of the National Executive Officers, with endorsement from the National President, Mr. Maxwell Bunu.
