The Ministry of Education has issued an official response to concerns raised by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) regarding the formation and inauguration of the Governing Board of the Scholarship Authority.
According to the Ministry, the process that led to the establishment of the Scholarship Authority was carried out through extensive drafting and consultations. It emphasized that all key stakeholders within the education sector were fully involved during this period. These engagements included student representatives through NUGS, civil society organizations, and other important partners within the education value chain.
The Ministry explained that as a result of the inclusive consultations, it was agreed that civil society organizations would serve as the umbrella body on the Governing Board. In line with this decision and the provisions of the law, NUGS has been duly and legitimately represented on the Board.
In its statement, the Ministry encouraged the current leadership of NUGS to engage with their immediate past leaders in order to gain a clearer understanding of how the representation process was structured and implemented.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its strong commitment to openness, inclusiveness, and cooperative governance in the administration and advancement of Ghana’s education sector. It also expressed appreciation for the positive input of all stakeholders and reiterated its readiness to continue working together to promote quality and accessible education for all Ghanaians.
