Education Minister Urges University Senior Staff to End Strike Following Government Payments

The Minister of Education has appealed to members of the Universities Senior Staff Association to suspend their ongoing strike action. The appeal comes after the government made certain payments to the association on 10th February 2026.

According to the Minister, the payments made are a demonstration of government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the senior staff of public universities. He therefore called on members of the association to consider the gesture and allow academic activities to resume.

The Universities Senior Staff Association, known for upholding the values of honesty, fraternity, and progress, has been engaged in industrial action over outstanding issues. The Minister’s appeal emphasizes dialogue and cooperation as efforts continue to resolve remaining concerns.

The call to end the strike is expected to ease tensions within the university system, as stakeholders await the association’s response to the government’s move.
