The 2024 batch of newly posted teachers has given the Ghana Education Service (GES) a one-month ultimatum to resolve delays in the issuance of staff IDs and the payment of salaries. The teachers warned that failure to address these issues could prompt them to take further action.
On Wednesday, February 18, the group staged a protest at the GES headquarters to highlight concerns over the non-issuance of staff IDs and up to 14 months of unpaid salaries.
The teachers explained that their documents could not be traced at the national office, despite assurances from district and regional authorities that they had been submitted.
Speaking to Citi News on the same day, Daniel Aidoo, Convenor of the 2024 batch of unpaid newly posted teachers, said the situation has persisted since 2024, preventing them from being placed on the payroll even after receiving financial clearance and actively working in schools.
“Some of us haven’t been paid for 12 months, others for 14 months. All that we are demanding is that they give us our staff IDs and officially recognize us as teachers employed by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service. We don’t want any back and forth. Those responsible for issuing our IDs should be held accountable,” he stated.
Aidoo added, “This cycle should not continue and affect future teachers. They gave us their word to submit our documents to the National HR office, and we also told them that if there is any delay, we will take action within one month.”
