GES Confirms Death of Two BECE Candidates in Tragic Accident

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced with deep sorrow the passing of two candidates who were preparing to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to an official statement released on May 5, 2026, the deceased students, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were learners at Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School located in the Upper West Region.

Initial information indicates that the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, when the two students were traveling to Wa to join their colleagues ahead of the start of the BECE. Sadly, they were involved in a road traffic accident that claimed their lives.

GES expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing the deaths as heartbreaking, especially considering the potential and promise the young students carried.

The Service extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, the school community, their classmates, and everyone affected by the tragedy. It also assured the public that it will work closely with relevant authorities to obtain full details surrounding the accident and consider steps to help avoid similar incidents in the future.

The statement concluded with prayers for the peaceful rest of the departed souls.
