The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has engaged in a productive meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) and her management team.
The engagement centered on critical welfare concerns affecting teacher trainees nationwide. Key among the issues discussed were the sustainability and prompt release of trainee allowances, as well as the difficulties trainees face when accessing their allowances through the E-Zwich payment platform.
During the interaction, the SLTF Chief Executive Officer acknowledged the challenges raised by TTAG. She assured the association that outstanding arrears from the previous academic year would be resolved as soon as possible to ease the financial pressure on trainees.
In addition, it was announced that a new payment mechanism is set to be introduced. This system will enable allowances to be paid directly into trainees’ personal bank accounts and accessed through mobile banking services. The pilot phase of this initiative is expected to commence in early February, after which registration and sensitization exercises will be carried out.
TTAG reaffirmed its dedication to continuous engagement with relevant stakeholders and its commitment to advocating policies that safeguard the welfare, dignity, and future of teacher trainees throughout Ghana.
