Are Diploma Holders Eligible for the 2026 GES Teacher Recruitment?

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has provided clarification on the eligibility criteria for the 2026 teacher recruitment, particularly regarding applications from diploma holders.

Based on the official guidelines, individuals applying for the recruitment must have either a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a relevant Bachelor’s Degree combined with a recognized professional education qualification. Accepted professional qualifications listed by GES include the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and Diploma in Basic Education.

This confirms that candidates with a Diploma in Basic Education can apply for the 2026 recruitment exercise, as long as they satisfy all other stated conditions.

The recruitment process is intended to bring in qualified teachers to improve education delivery in schools across Ghana, especially in underserved and deprived areas.

Beyond the academic requirements, applicants are also expected to have completed National Service, remain in good standing with the National Teaching Council (NTC), and hold a valid teaching license. In addition, candidates must show strong communication and classroom management abilities and be prepared to accept postings to deprived districts.

Applicants who meet these requirements are encouraged to complete their applications before the closing date.
