GES Releases Funds for Perishable Food Supplies in Senior High and Technical Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the release of outstanding funds for the purchase of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country.

The issue followed concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) over delays in the release of funds needed to procure fresh food supplies for SHS and TVET institutions. The delay had led to a decision by school authorities not to reopen the schools until the funds were made available.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of GES, Daniel Fenyi, the Service announced that the financial challenge affecting the procurement of these essential food supplies has now been resolved.

GES stated that management has already started the necessary processes to ensure the smooth distribution of the released funds to the various schools across the country.

The Service also noted that monitoring and accountability measures have been put in place to make sure the funds are used properly and only for the intended purpose of purchasing perishable food items.

According to the statement, the release of the funds forms part of the Service’s continued commitment to the welfare of students and the improvement of educational outcomes nationwide.

The development is expected to provide relief to school heads and suppliers who have been dealing with challenges in the supply of fresh food items to second-cycle institutions.
