Government Approves Recruitment of 7,000 Teachers to Address Shortage

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the Ministry of Education has received approval from the Ministry of Finance to recruit a minimum of 7,000 teachers.

This decision is aimed at tackling the increasing shortage of teachers across the country and strengthening the education system.

Opportunities for Teacher Graduates

The recruitment exercise will target graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts. This provides a significant opportunity for trained teachers to gain employment while contributing to the improvement of education delivery nationwide.

Boost for Universities

In addition to the teacher recruitment, Haruna Iddrisu also disclosed that universities across the country have been granted approval to recruit 1,200 faculty members. This initiative is expected to improve staffing levels and enhance the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions.

Strengthening the Education Sector

The combined recruitment drive forms part of a broader government effort to expand access to quality education, ensure adequate staffing in schools, and promote the development of human capital in Ghana.

Stakeholder Reactions

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, indicating that it will help ease the burden on existing teachers and contribute to better learning outcomes across the country.
