The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced that all individuals applying for jobs in agencies under the Ministry of Education must have their academic certificates verified as part of the recruitment process.
This requirement comes after clearance was granted for recruitment into institutions operating under the Ministry of Education. In response, GTEC has highlighted the importance of carefully checking applicants’ qualifications before any appointments are finalized.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 9, the Commission called on prospective applicants to submit their tertiary academic credentials for assessment. These include diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs, all of which must undergo verification to confirm their legitimacy.
According to GTEC, this measure is intended to tackle the increasing problem of fake academic certificates and qualifications obtained from institutions that are not accredited or officially recognized.
Established under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), GTEC is responsible for accrediting public and private tertiary institutions, approving their academic programmes, and validating educational credentials.
The Commission stated that certificate verification will play a major role in the recruitment exercise, ensuring that only properly qualified and certified candidates are eligible for employment within the education sector.
GTEC has therefore urged all prospective applicants to act promptly, as the process is essential to maintaining trust and quality standards in Ghana’s education system.
