The National Teaching Council (NTC) has held discussions with major student stakeholders regarding the future of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) following its incorporation into the final examinations of teacher trainees.
The engagement brought together representatives from the Teacher Training Association of Ghana (TTAG) and the Education Affiliated Universities Students Association to discuss issues related to the next phase of the GTLE.
Key areas of discussion included reforms to the licensure examination after its integration into trainees’ final assessments, the proposed schedule for the next GTLE, and other matters concerning the licensure process.
The meeting was held at the NTC Headquarters on 23rd June 2026 and was chaired by the Deputy Registrar in Charge of Operations, Dr. Cecilia Esenam Agbeh.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Cecilia Agbeh assured the student representatives that the Council remains open to their concerns and opinions communicated through their leadership. She reiterated NTC’s commitment to implementing reforms that safeguard the standards of the teaching profession while also considering the interests of teacher trainees.
The Council announced that the next Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination is expected to be conducted in September 2026. It further indicated that details regarding registration timelines and examination guidelines will be communicated ahead of the examination period and published on its official platform.
