TTAG Calls for Urgent Government Intervention in Teacher Recruitment After Presidential Acknowledgment

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has reacted to a recent update from the Office of the President regarding its petition on teacher recruitment. In a communication dated 21st April, 2026, referenced OPS307/26/594, the Presidency confirmed receipt of the petition and indicated that it has been forwarded to the Ministry of Education for necessary action.

TTAG welcomed this development, noting that it represents progress, but stressed the need for swift and concrete measures. The Association emphasized that the response should translate into immediate and decisive action to address the concerns raised.

According to TTAG, the situation confronting trained teachers across the country has reached a critical point. Persistent delays in recruitment are worsening uncertainty and creating hardship for many qualified graduates who are still without employment. The Association maintained that the issue should not be prolonged further and called for urgency, strong commitment, and tangible outcomes.

The group also indicated that it has pursued all available avenues in good faith. As part of its next steps, TTAG has arranged further engagements with the President of the Republic as well as the Minister for Education. These discussions are expected to focus on securing clear timelines, firm assurances, and practical solutions.

TTAG made it clear that the patience of teacher trainees is not unlimited. It cautioned that the referral of the matter must not lead to additional delays but should instead signal the beginning of prompt action. The Association further stated that it will consider its next course of action if the concerns continue to remain unresolved.

Reaffirming its commitment, TTAG expressed its determination to ensure a fair and timely resolution that benefits teacher trainees and strengthens the education sector.

The statement was jointly endorsed by the General Secretary, Victor Atsu Anyidoho, and the President, Nanija Divine, and issued to media houses across Ghana.
